Member Benefits of the Hawaii Education Association

Insurance

Life insurance HEA has offered group life insurance at the lowest possible cost since 1953.

Accidental death and dismemberment insurance Insurance equal to double the amount of life insurance costs less than four cents per thousand dollars of coverage.

Income protection insurance Coverage is for members in active educational service who work 20 or more hours per week; you are paid 60 percent of basic monthly earnings, up to $5,000 per month if totally disabled and a graduated elimination period has been satisfied.

Long-term care insurance Protection against costly nursing home or home-care service avoids loopholes and provides the most useful coverage.

Automobile insurance Family Automobile Policy is available at greatly reduced rates, and a special discount is offered for a good driving record. (Not normally available to associate members.)

Homeowners insurance Coverage is available to homeowners or tenants and includes condominiums and apartments.

Cancer insurance This specialized insurance is relatively inexpensive and provides additional protection.

Grandchild insurance Several options provide coverage especially designed for young people. Coverage begun early in life provides both security and savings that may be useful for education, buying a home, or retirement. Premiums are surprisingly low.

Scholarships

Each year HEA awards scholarships to individuals (and their children) who have been members of HEA for a full year or longer. Applications may be requested from guidance counselors and school administrators in public and private schools throughout the state, and from financial aid officers at Hawaii's colleges and universities. Forms and information is also available from HEA.

HEA also awards several endowed scholarships including the Faith C. Ai Lai and the May and Hubert Everly Scholarships.

Discount Auto Purchase Program

Automobile dealers specially selected for their integrity provide discounts to HEA members. These can mean substantial savings on the purchase of certain new cars. Members may call or write HEA to request a special letter of introduction.
